Dental Hygienist License Renewal in Mississippi

The Mississippi State Board of Dental Examiners sets the rules. Renewal: every 2 years (dental hygienists renew in even-numbered years; 2026-2028 cycle begins September 1, 2026); deadline: License renewal occurs from September 1 through October 31 each biennial period; penalties apply November 1 through December 31; licenses not renewed by December 31, 2026 will VOID. Continuing education: 20 hours of Board-approved CDE per biennial renewal period (January 1 of odd year through December 31 of even year for hygienists). Each fact below is quoted from an official state source, linked beside it, and was checked on 2026-10-12. Confirm with the board before you rely on it: rules change.

Late renewal and lapse

Licenses not renewed by October 31 are assessed penalties for November 1 through December 31 of the renewal period (no exceptions per the Board FAQ); licenses not renewed by December 31 are voided on January 1. Reinstating a voided hygienist license requires 10 hours of Board-approved CDE within the 12 months prior to the request and current CPR certification within the previous 12 months.

For the office manager

The renewal is the hygienist's to complete, but a lapsed license is the practice's problem on the schedule. Keep each hygienist's expiry date where an alert reaches both of you well before it, long enough for any CE still owed. The free renewal calendar makes reminders for your own calendar; LVL Up Performance keeps the dates on each staff record and alerts ahead. Neither tracks CE hours or checks anything with the board.
