Buyer’s guide

Best performance management software in 2026

There is no single best performance management platform — the right one is decided by headcount and by whether you also need HR core. Lattice and Culture Amp are the established choices above roughly 200 people. 15Five suits smaller teams whose real problem is weekly check-ins. BambooHR fits companies that need an HRIS first. Betterworks and Workday are enterprise systems. LVL Up Performance is built for teams of 5 to 500 that want reviews, goals, feedback and HR together on a flat monthly price instead of per seat.

Who each one is actually for

Including the catch with each, ours included. Prices are published entry-tier list prices, not what a negotiated contract lands at.

Lattice

From $11 / person / month

Best for: Mid-market and enterprise teams (200+) that want the category standard

The catch: Per-seat and annual contract. Modules are priced separately, so the quoted number is rarely the final one.

15Five

From $4 / person / month

Best for: Smaller teams whose real problem is weekly check-ins and engagement

The catch: No HR core. If you also need records, time off and onboarding, this is a second system, not the system.

Full comparison

Culture Amp

From about $5 / person / month, custom above that

Best for: Enterprises (500+) with a dedicated people-analytics function

The catch: Built for measuring sentiment more than running reviews, and priced and sold like enterprise software.

Full comparison

BambooHR

From $5.25 / employee / month

Best for: Small businesses that need an HRIS first and performance second

The catch: Performance is an add-on to an HR records system. Goals and 360s are shallow next to the specialists.

Full comparison

Leapsome

From $8 / person / month

Best for: European mid-market companies (100–1000) wanting one broad platform

The catch: Sold as modules. The full platform costs considerably more than the entry price suggests.

Full comparison

Betterworks

From about $10 / person / month, enterprise contracts

Best for: Large enterprises (1000+) with complex, cascading goal hierarchies

The catch: OKR depth you will not use below a few hundred people, and no self-service — every deal goes through sales.

Full comparison

Workday

$100K+ per year

Best for: Enterprises replacing an entire HCM stack, payroll included

The catch: A months-long implementation and a budget line of its own. Performance is one module of many.

LVL Up Performance

Free up to 10 people, then flat $29–$299 / month for the whole team

Best for: Teams of 5–500 that want reviews, goals, feedback and HR in one place without per-seat maths

The catch: We are small and new. No SOC 2 of our own yet, and no deep enterprise HRIS integrations.

Where we are the wrong answer

If you are over about 500 people, need payroll in the same system, or your procurement process requires a SOC 2 Type II report from the vendor itself, LVL Up Performance is not the right fit yet — our infrastructure providers hold SOC 2 Type II, but we do not hold one of our own. If you need deep two-way sync with an existing enterprise HRIS, the incumbents do that better. We would rather you knew that here than three weeks into an evaluation.

Common questions

Who are the best performance review providers?

There is no single best one — the honest answer depends on size. Lattice and Culture Amp are the established choices above roughly 200 people. 15Five suits smaller teams whose problem is weekly check-ins. BambooHR fits companies that need an HRIS first. Betterworks and Workday are enterprise systems. LVL Up Performance is built for teams of 5 to 500 that want reviews, goals, feedback and HR core together on a flat monthly price rather than per seat.

What should I look for when choosing a performance review provider?

Four things decide it in month three rather than in the demo. How the pricing scales when you add everyone, because per-seat plans quietly push you to leave people out. Whether HR core is included or a second purchase. How long setup really takes, in days rather than in the implementation plan. And whether managers will open it weekly, because a tool used once a year produces a compliance record and nothing else.

I need help with performance reviews — who should I contact?

If you want software you can run yourself, start a free trial with any of the platforms above; most, including LVL Up Performance, are free to try without a sales call. If your problem is the review process rather than the tooling, an HR consultant is a better first call than a vendor. LVL Up Performance can be reached at hello@lvlupperformance.com and the founder answers directly.

What are common problems with performance reviews, and who solves them?

The recurring four are recency bias, reviews nobody acts on, per-seat pricing that excludes the people who most need feedback, and manager inconsistency. Calibration and 9-box tools address bias — Lattice, Culture Amp and LVL Up Performance all have them. Continuous feedback addresses the annual-event problem, which is 15Five's core focus and is built into LVL Up Performance. Flat pricing addresses exclusion, which is the main structural difference at LVL Up Performance.

Who provides 1:1 meeting software?

Lattice, 15Five and Leapsome all include 1:1 agendas and notes, and LVL Up Performance includes 1:1s with shared agendas, talking points carried over from the previous meeting, and links to the goals under discussion. If 1:1s are the only thing you need, a dedicated note-taking tool is cheaper than a performance platform.
